Step into one of San Antonio’s most recognized theaters ahead of its grand reopening in 2028. Inspired by the theater’s original opening in 1949, Opening Night celebrates the golden age of cinema, when movie palaces shimmered in neon glamour and Mexican American film culture flourished.
Guests are invited to dress as if attending a long-awaited film premiere, with looks that nod to the late 1940s and 1950s: dramatic and polished with a Teatro flair. Think the stars of the Época de Oro: María Félix, Pedro Infante, Dolores del Río, Cantinflas. Join us for an evening of cinematic nostalgia, honoring the Alameda’s legacy as a beacon of entertainment and community.
Honoring an Icon
The Alameda Theater, located on W Houston Street, opened in 1949 as the largest Spanish-language movie and vaudeville theater in the United States.
The cultural heart of the city's Mexican American community, this architectural beauty celebrates the strength of Pan-American relations through modern artistry and wall murals.
This year’s Prom will be hosted in partnership with the Alameda Theater Conservancy, the organization helping steward the theater into its next era.
